2026 World Cup Draw:  Scorpions Placed In Pot Four

The competition will be co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States of America.

Also in Pot one are; Morocco, Senegal, Algeria, Tunisia, Cameroon, Mali and Egypt.

The countries will be drawn into nine groups of six teams, with all the group winners qualifying for the tournament.

The four best teams that finish in second place will compete in a mini-tournament and the winner will qualify for an intercontinental play-off.

The Scorpions is yet to qualify for the World Cup, but on 25 March 2021, The Gambia inked their name in the history books of African football when they became the 44th nation and the last from West Africa to qualify for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations.

 The Gambia also known as “the smiling coast of Africa” confirmed their place at the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, Cameroon 2021 following a 1-0 victory over Angola in the penultimate round of qualifying.

Former FC Zurich forward Assan Ceesay was the Scorpions’ hero scoring the all-important winner against the PalancasNegras at Bakau’s Independence Stadium to book a place at the delayed showpiece event.

Tom Saintfiet’s team had to start from the preliminary round of qualifying for the World Cup as they were among the lowest ranked teams in the continent.

The draw will be conducted on Wednesday, July 12, 2023.
