As Muslims in Senegal gathered to observe the 2023 Eid-il-Adha popular known as Tobaski across Senegambia on Thursday, in Barry Ndondol, Imam Serigne Balla Mbackenarrowly escaped death when an unknown man tried to stab him.
According to a circulated video of the event which went viral on social media shortly after the ugly event, Sene News reported that a significant event occurred in the heart of the small village of Barry Ndondol, in the commune of Ndondol in the department of Bambey. Imam Sérigne Balla Mbacké, responsible for leading the prayer, narrowly escaped death when an unknown individual tried to stab him.
According to eyewitnesses, and the Sene News, the alleged attacker is a member of a sect whose name has not been disclosed. The latter was not known in the village and did not know Imam Sérigne Balla Mbacké, who does not live in MadiapTine but goes there only to lead prayers during religious festivals such as Tabaski.
“In one of the videos of our colleagues from Bambey 24 following the incident, we can see with relief that the imam is safe and sound. Despite the attempted assault, he showed admirable calm and determination, not only continuing the prayer but also holding his Qutba (sermon), as if nothing had happened.
“However, The gendarmerie forces were not informed of the incident. The release of a video documenting the event has drawn the attention of authorities, who we understand are seeking more details and may be looking for the unidentified individual,” reported Sene News.
