By Nicholas Bass

A businessman of Sinchu-Sorri Village, Siaka Trawally,  onMonday, 10th July 2023, accused Alhlagie Tunkara and Bubacarr Touray of pretense by parading themselves as Police Officers and demanded a sum of D30,000.

Siaka Trawally also a PW1 in the case disclosed this at the Brikama Magistrate’s Court presided over by Magistrate EbouSowe.

In his testimony, Siaka Trawally narrated that the 1st and 2nd accused, Alhagie Tunkura and Bubacarr Touray respectively came to his Shop at Sinchu-Sorri on the 16th June 2023 where they paraded themselves as Police Officers sent to check the shops that were selling single cigarette instead of selling per packet of cigarette. He noted that the two accused claimed that such culprits should pay D30,000 or else place in Police custody.

PW1, Siaka Trawally, lamented that the duo collected his money,  canned beef, and half packets of cigarettes forcefully after threatening to put him (the complainant )  in detention but he (the complainant)  did not give D30,000 as they claimed.

However, ‘when I cried for help from my neighbors they rescued me from their hands (of the 1st and 2nd accused), and they were taken to the Anti-Crime Unit”, the complainant explained.

Meanwhile, according to the records of the court, the 1st and 2nd accused on the 26th of June 2023 were convicted and sentenced for conspiracy and stealing and they were fined the sum of D500 on each count of their offence while they are now standing for the 3rd count of impersonating Public Officer contrary to Section 93 (b) of the Criminal Code Cap 10:01 Volume 3, Laws of The Gambia 2009.
