Anchor butter worth D800,000 alleged thieves appear in court

Edmond Gomez and Babucarr Faye charged with conspiracy and stealing pleaded not guilty to the charges yesterday when they appeared before Magistrate Mben Faal of the KanifingMagistrates’ Court.

The duo were charged with stealing cartons of anchor butter worth over D800,000.

At the call of the case and read of the charge sheet to them both of the accused, Edmond Gomez and Babucarr Faye pleaded not guilty to conspiracy and stealing, adding that they did not conspire to commit a felony and did not steal 123.26 cartons of anchor butter from Express Supermarket at Senegambia.

According to their charges on count 1 revealed that EdmonGomez and Babucarr Faye on or about the 15th May 2023 at Senegambia in Kanifing conspired amongst themselves with intent to commit a felony.

Count two stated that Edmond Gomez and Babucarr Faye on or about the 15th May 2023 at Senegambia stole 123.26 cartons of anchor butter valued at eight hundred and fifty-six thousand Dalasi and thirty-three bututs from Express Supermarket being the properties of Harrish Wadaswani.

The police prosecutor Sub-Inspector Barrow after the accused took their plea, applied for an adjournment to secure PW1 and without any objection to their bail while M. E. Jeng the defencecounsel for the accused applied for the bail of her clients.

Magistrate Faal granted them bail at the sum of D1 Million with three Gambian sureties.
