Police prosecutor has on Thursday, 13th July 2023, applied for a bench warrant for the arrest of a Gambian British semester, Lamin David Conteh, who was accused of stealing a vehicle of Abdoulie Jatta.
At the beginning of the hearing of the motion at KanifingMagistrates’ Court presided over by magistrate Mben Faal, Sub-Inspector Cherno B. Jallow applied for a bench warrant for the arrest of Lamin David Conteh to enable their UK counterparts (Interpol) to execute his arrest.
The prosecutor disclosed to the court that Interpol had requested a bench warrant from them (prosecutions) to facilitate the arrest of Lamin David Conteh in the United Kingdom.
He stressed that the ex-parte motion was supported by a nine-paragraph affidavit that was sworn by Inspector Babu Sanyang, the Station Officer of Kotu Criminal Investigation Unit, and was supported by a charge sheet filed against Lamin David Conteh. He added that the accused fled to the UK after stealing the vehicle that was said to be given to him in the Gambia by Abdoulie Jatta.
According to an affidavit filed by the office of the IGP before the court, the British semester Lamin David Conteh, in paragraph 5 of the affidavit read that the suspect (Lamin David Conteh) was charged with the offence of stealing a motor vehicle marked Nissan worth D500,000 belonging to the complainant, Abdoulie Jatta.
Meanwhile, his charge sheet filed before the court stated that Lamin David Conteh on or about the 1st day of September 2022 at Kotu stole a motor vehicle marked Nissan registered number BJL 7461R valued D500,000 being the property of AbdoulieJatta.
