Red Scorpions FC win Women’s domestic league division one 2022/23 after a 3-0 win in Banjul against Abuko United on the league final match day on Sunday.
Sunday marked the Red Scorpions’ 11 victories of the GFF women’s domestic league division one and their continued dominance.
Fatou Bojang opened the scoring for the champions with a simple tap-in before top scorer Kumba Kuyateh put up a brace to take her record to 20 goals.
Meanwhile, Berewuleng made a second-place lace finish with a comfortable 3-0 victory over relegated Jeshwang United.
Kumba Kassama, Teddy Serreh Jatta, and Mafanta Drammehwere on the scoresheet for the Brikama-based outfit. Meanwhile, City Girls won the relegation battle with a 2-0 score line in a tense encounter played at the LOSFF in Old Yundum with Captain Ellen Gai and Mariama A Jarju scoring for the City Girls.
In the other two games, Koita and GAF drew goalless in Brikama while Future Bi held Police ladies to a 1-1 draw.
Anna Bojang gave Future Bi a 17th-minute lead before Maimuna Sarr restored parity in the 36th minute for a share of the points to cap off a memorable season.
Champions Red Scorpions made a back-to-back crown finishing the season with a staggering 52 points, dropping just 2 points all season. Berewuleng finished 2nd with 39 points, followed by Police ladies with 35 points. Raptim and Jeshwang United got relegated to the Second tier as they couldn’t survive the drop.
As champions Red Scorpions scooped D500, 000:00 (Five Hundred Thousand Dalasis ), Berewuleng as 1st Runners with D250,000:00 ( Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Dalasis ). In contrast, Police ladies as 2nd Runners Up receive D125, 000:00 (One Hundred and Twenty-Five Thousand Dalasis) all sponsored by the Gambia Football Federation.
Red Scorpions as champions were presented with a giant trophy and medals presided over by GFF First Vice President Bakary K Jammeh and also attended by Executive Committee Members, staff of the Secretariat, and cheering fans.
