Gitteh challenges Barrow’s government to employ qualified people for work

The Human Resource Lecturer at the School of Business and Public Administration at the University of The Gambia over the weekend challenged the government of Adama Barrow to employ people who are qualified for public service offices.

In an interview with the Voice Newspaper, Alasan Gittehemphasised the need for the Barrow government to employ people that are qualified to work as public servants for good and better deliver the nation from corruption and financial embezzlement.

He lamented the poor performance management of the nation’s public servants saying it created great setbacks in the development of the nation while noting that some of the civil servants are not fit for the job they occupied.

He said this has resulted in a fragile labor force because some of the civil servants are without the technical know-how to do the required work assigned to them.

He went on that the government should employ people who are willing to work and also build the abilities of those qualified individuals for better delivery in the public sectors for a better Gambia.

However, some of the diplomats and ministers who should have labored for the interest of the nation, he said, have diverted their focus on personal gains.

“But this can be mitigated when the government is ready to create a functional performance management system that will determine the performance of civil and private servants of every sector in determining the outcomes of every sector,” Gitteh stated.

He, therefore, advised President Barrow and his team of government to develop strategies in combating the employment of unqualified public and private servants coupled with widespread corruption and embezzlement of public funds.

More so, he said those noted or suspected to be corrupted civil servants should face justice.

He as well implored the government to decentralize the investment of public funds in meeting the needs of farmers and business owners in the remote parts of the country to boost the agricultural sector.
