Sanna Dahaba, the Executive Director of the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) said constructing on waterways might cause flood during the rainy season

Dahaba made these remarks in an interview with this medium at his office in Kanifing, on Tuesday, 25th July 2023 saying “If you go to places like Talinding Farokono, Ebo Town, and Bakauamong other places you will find out that there are residential structures build on swampy areas that block water passage, which affects residents causing flood during the rainy season.

“The government make a law in this country that if you want to make any construction you have to seek acknowledgment of the Physical Planning so that they can demarcate area good for settlement”, he said.

Dahaba added that the world is experiencing climate change and that have to go with the change of attitude of the people, and the same goes for the Gambian people to change their attitude, too, towards the environment.

“Gambians should change their attitude so that the support that the Government is giving can be helpful and accessible to the people”, he urged everyone and also implored them to stop constructing to block waterways to avoid flood disasters.
