In their quest to support early childhood education and development, MOKI Foundation, after a four-day registration, over the weekend awarded 50 scholarships to different students of nursery, primary and high schools across the Gambia.
The scholarship registration exercise was held in Bakau starting from Thursday, 20th to Sunday, 23rd March 2023, and the students were accompanied by their parents to the BakauCommunity Centre for registration.
Speaking to Dr Fatima Ella Ba, CEO and Founder of MOKI Foundation happily said that this time “We registered 50 students in four days and all these students now have full scholarships for their education.”
About MOKI Foundation, she said the acronym stands for Malick Oumie Khadija Isatou saying the Foundation was initially launched on the 1st of April 2016 to support orphans in shelters and villages in The Gambia.
She noted that since its inception, MOKI Foundation has registered and sponsored 40 schools, 4 nurseries, and 1 College, a total of 90 students for education in the Gambia, “MF also supports 10 widows living with young children and 3 orphans living with guardians.”
MF main projects, she explained, are supporting early childhood education and development, women and youth empowerment, elderly healthcare, agriculture, provision of school uniform scheme, and entrepreneurship.
The CEO added that MOKI Foundation is growing and now have a new project to assist in early teenage pregnancies and the welfare of newborn babies and very soon MOKI will start with another project called Zero Hunger For Kids.
Lamin Jarsey, Parents Rep of MOKI Foundation said MF encourages participation amongst many of the minority groups living in the local community including other charity organisations in Africa.
He noted that MF sponsorship is to the university level and the vision of MOKI is “to empower youths through education with a long-term aim of ensuring a better quality of life for a student and his or her family.
While we breach the gap between service providers and the community to acquire education. And the mission “is to raise funds to create opportunities for young children in Africa to further their education and work in collaboration with a variety of partnership projects which can transform residents into a self-sufficient and sustainable community.”
