The Regional Fanta Science/Maths Quiz competition, organized by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE), recently concluded at Nusrat SSS with 20 Schools qualifying for National Championship.
the competition aims to promote interest and excellence in Science and Mathematics among students.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Dr. Babou Joof, Principal Education Officer at the Science, Technology and Education Directorate (STED), emphasized the crucial role these subjects play in shaping young minds, equipping them to become professionals in various fields, ultimately contributing to national development.
“No one will come to develop our nation but we have to do it for ourselves. If you specialize in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, then you become a good Scientist because that is the foundation”, he elucidated.
Dr. Joof further said that the event was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE), Gambia Breweries Limited (GAMBEGA), and Gambia Radio and Television Service (GRTS) who provided unwavering support and sponsorship to ensure the success of the competition.
The Vice Principal of Nusrat Senior Secondary School, Mr Adaiexpressed gratitude to participating schools, teachers, and students for their dedication. He believed that the competition would catalyze enhancing the country’s overall development by promoting a deeper interest in Science, Mathematics, and related fields among youth.
The teacher coordinator for Nusrat SSS, Mr. Alieu Jallow, shared his insights into the quiz’s impact on the students. Mr. Jallow noted that the competition had a positive effect on the learning process of Science and Mathematics, and it would undoubtedly contribute to strengthening (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) STEM discipline within the school and beyond.
One of the participants from Nusrat SSS, Sorrie Sisawo, expressed his excitement and gratitude for being part of the quiz.
He was enthused that the experience had opened up new horizons and allowed him to discover things beyond what he learned in the classroom.
