The Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Gambia Police Force, Cadet ASP Muhammed Darboe, has denied any knowledge of the reported arrest and subsequent detention of former local government minister Abba Sanyang.
“I never received any official communication about any arrest or detention of Mr. Sanyang,” ASP Darboe told The Voice when approached for comment about the progress in the reported investigations against the estranged local government minister.
Early last month, the Gambia government announced that President Adama Barrow has accepted Abba Sanyang’sresignation but reports were rife in town that Sanyang was a guest of the police at Senegambia shortly after his reported resignation.
According to information that circulated on social media shortly after his reported resignation for alleged involvement in an activity deemed incompatible with his position as a Cabinet minister, Sanyang was reportedly being investigated on corrupt practices allegations.
However when contacted for comment on the progress or otherwise of the reported investigation, the police deputy spokesperson Darboe said he only heard and read about Sanyang’s brush with the police on social media.
Darboe’s denial came at a time when many Gambians were waiting with bated breath, regarding the outcome of the reported probe.
