23 nuisances plead not guilty

Twenty-three people causing a public nuisance charged with two counts of disorder on 8 August 2023 pleaded not guilty to the charges before the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court presided over by principal magistrate Omar Jabang.

Alpha Dampha, Janka Sanyang, Babucarr Secka, Arfang Badjie, Ebrima Camara, Wa Saidybah, Alieu Khan, Malick Nyang, Muhammed Jobe, Pierre Jatta, Papa Kan, Ebrima Jallow, Musa Sallah, Ebrima Camara, Lamin Manka, Macho Ceesay, BabucarrJallow, Yerro Saidy, Abdoulie Dibba, Musa Saidykan, Alfa Omar Jallow, Sheikh Tijan Faye, and Muhammed Tourayyesterday were the twenty-three people arraigned before the court for causing disturbance at Serrekunda and diverse places in Kanifing Municipality.

All the accused denied the charge filed against them, pointing out that they were not disorderly and does not idle nor were they disturbing the peace of the State.

Police prosecutor Oley Bobb in her objection to the bail of the accused said that it is not an absolute right for the accused to be granted bail, citing that the country is experiencing a series of cases. 

Prosecutor Bobb also said the office of IGP is in operation to clean the street, a crusade that will create a free movement of citizens without any interference.

Magistrate Omar Jabang at this juncture adjourned the case for the ruling on the bail of the accused.

Meanwhile, a summary of the criminal charge pressed against the twenty-three accused stated that in August 2023 at Serrekunda and diverse places in Kanifing Municipality of the Republic of the Gambia they (accused) exercise a common right, obstruct or cause annoyance and inconvenience to the public.
