After more than a month without a head, the Medicines Control Agency (MCA) now has a director although in an acting capacity, The Voice can authoritatively report.

According to informed sources, Essa Marenah (BPharmHons., MPharm Clin.), Director of Evaluation, Registration and Inspection at the Medicines Control Agency (MCA), The Gambia, is now the acting director of MCA.

Mr. Marenah reportedly started work last week as MCA’s acting director a little over a month when the agency’s former director Markieu Janneh Kaira and ex-deputy director Fatoumatta Jah-Sowe were sent home in July as recommended by the commission established to enquire into the circumstances that led to the mass death of Gambian children after consuming contaminated Indian-made cough syrup.
