Principal Magistrate Omar Jabang of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court has given an accused, Ebrima Sillah, an opportunity to communicate with his lawyer who was absent from the court last Tuesday when his case was called before the presiding magistrate.
Ebrima Sillah was indicted for false pretense and with intent to defraud, and obtain from Amadou Konneh the sum of 33,100,000 CFA equivalent to D2,970,000 with the pretense that he would supply 95 tons of fertilizer which representation was false at the time.
When the case was called by the clerk for the accused’s lawyer
to enter his or her appearance in the case, Ebrima Sillah told the court that he did not know his lawyer’s absence at the court.
However, the prosecutor, Commissioner Abdoulie Sannehstood up with an objection and said, the defense lawyer, IsmailaDibba did not inform the court of his absence.
At this juncture, the presiding magistrate Jabang ordered prosecutor Sanneh to allow Sillah to communicate to his lawyer or take another lawyer before the next adjournment date.
Meanwhile, his charge sheet read that Ebrima Sillah and SimacBroker Company Limited between June to July 2021 at Kololiand its diverse places in the Republic of The Gambia by false pretense and with intent to defraud, obtained from AmadouKonneh the sum of 33,100,000 CFA equivalent to 2 million nine hundred and seventy thousand Dalasis (D2,970,000) with the pretext that he will supply 95 tons of fertilizer which representation was false at the time.
