The Basse Area Council, on Monday, 28th August 2023 announced the collapse of the Kabakama footbridge which was rehabilitated to the tune of D225,655.00 in 2019 by the BasseArea Council (BAC).
Basse Area Council stated in a statement that it has come to the management’s attention that the Kabakama footbridge had collapsed following the heavy rainfall of Sunday night.
The Chairman of the Basee Area Council, Mahamadou Ceesay alongside some council officials paid an immediate visit to the site on Monday morning to gauge the level of the damage.
“In 2019, the council spent D225,655 for the maintenance of the said bridge for sustainability purposes”, as stated in the statement.
The bridge serves as a connection for the people of BasseKabakama to the market and other business destinations around the area.
The council added that the unfortunate collapse of the footbridge left the people around with difficulties in connecting to other vicinities for their daily errands which will affect both the businessmen and their clients.
According to the statement from the area council, “the Chairman has called for an immediate restriction of the area for security and safety reasons, while the council looks forward to addressing the problem.”
