Magistrate Ebou Sowe of Brikama Magistrates’ Court on 24th August 2023 sentenced Modou Lamin Ndow to nine years imprisonment on two counts of theft.
Modou Lamin Ndow at the initial hearing of the case pleaded not guilty to housebreaking and stealing items worth D1, 436,700 but he later changed his plea.
Magistrate Sowe after hearing the facts narrated by prosecutor ASP Oley Bobb stated that Modou Lamin Ndow stole jewelries of Sheriff Muhammed Lamin Jarju and Abibatu Saidy worth D 1,436,700.
Prosecutor Bobb also presented D42,000 cash Ndow obtained from the sold items of the complainants together with a vehicle and items the convict bought from the money of the stolen items this made Magistrate Sowe enter a mandatory judgment.
However, Prosecutor Bobb applied for compensation for the complainants, Sheriff Muhammed Lamin Jarju and AbibatuSaidy.
”Modou Lamin Ndow is hereby found guilty of the two counts of theft and sentenced to 5-year imprisonment on count one and 4-year imprisonment on count two.
“Also, he shall pay a fine of D1, 152,300 compensation to the complainants in default to serve 3-year imprisonment,” Magistrate Sowe ruled.
