Head of Programs at the Gambia Victim Center, a center for victims of Human Rights Violations, Kebba Jome, has raised an eyebrow at the perpetrators of gross human rights violations in active service saying it is a major concern to the Center.
Speaking in a press conference organised by the Victim Centre yesterday, Mr. Jome told the Ministry of Justice and the National Human Rights Commission that, the continuous presence of the perpetrators of gross human rights violations in active service is a major concern to the victims.
Head of Programs at the Victim Center, Jome stated that anywhere they have engagement with the victims they always complain to them about the continuous presence of certain individuals who are mentioned in the TRRC recommendations for the gross human rights violations they meted on them and their families.
“Some of the individuals who are perpetrators of gross human rights violations who are still in active service and usually mentioned by the victims are Alagie Kanyi who is serving the Gambia Immigration Department stationed at Jarra Soma, and two other individuals at the State Intelligence Service (SIS) former (NIA) among other perpetrators in other government departments,” he stated.
The Programs Officer at Victim Center, Aisha Jammeh, disclosed that through the psychosocial activities, they have realized that some of the victims or victim families are going through trauma in living with some of the perpetrators in various communities.
However, Speaking on the issue of former Jungler, Malick Jatta, Madam Jammeh, said Malick is living in a community where everyone knows what he is alleged of committed during his time in the army as a Jungler.
