Karanta Darboe is currently facing 150 criminal charges in three lower courts, the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court heard on Wednesday.
ASP Oley Bobb, prosecuting, told the court that the Sukuta-born Karanta Darboe is facing 150 charges at the Brikama, Kanifing, and Bundung Magistrates’ Court.
ASP Bobb on Wednesday informed the court presided over by Magistrate Mben Faal that society needs to be protected from Karanta in view of his criminal record.
The prosecution said Karanta’s criminal record was alarming.Karanta, who had no legal representation, said in his plea that he is a family man with five children. He explained that he is a Gambian and can call his family to guarantee him.
“My wife and I are sick and if I am put in detention, my family will suffer,” Karanta cried to court.
He was charged and arraigned on nine counts of theft ranging from obtaining money, credit, and commodities by false pretenses.
At this juncture, Magistrate Mben adjourned the case for theruling on Karanta’s request for bail.
