The Brikama Magistrates’ Court yesterday resumed hearings into a case involving two motorbikes that belonged to the United Democratic Party(UDP) and a certain Omar Sawaneh.
Ebrima Camara , Saidou Leigh alias Tension , Muhammed Danso alias 50 and Lamin Bah are now being tried on allegation of stealing the bikes at Mamuda village in July of this year.
They were slammed with three counts of conspiracy, burglary and theft.
Testifying before Principal Magistrate Sallah Mbai on Monday, the second prosecution witness Omar Sawaneh said that he was woken by his nephew on 10 July 2023, after his motorbike and that of the UDP went missing at his compound. He recounted that this was between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m.
The witness further testified that after realizing the UDP’smotorbike and his were missing, he reported the matter to Sanyang and Manduar police stations.
Sawaneh informed the court that he subsequently received a call from a friend, who informed him that the bikes were at Brikamapolice station.
He adduced that upon arrival at the station, he identified the UDP motorbike that was under the care of his in-law.
The witness explained that when he visited the Brikama police station, he was referred to the Anti-Crime unit in Banjulinding, where he was asked to identify his missing motorbike.
”I identified my blue motorbike with glue on it,” he stated.
The prosecution, led by Sub-Inspector Louis Gomez, at this juncture, applied for the tendering of Sawaneh’s motorbike as a piece of evidence and it was admitted and marked as exhibit B.
Prosecutor Gomez also applied for the motorbike to be returnedto Sawaneh, promising that it would be made available to the court anytime the court requests it. This was also granted by Magistrate Mbai.
The particulars of the alleged offenses stated that EbrimaCamara,Saidou Leigh alias Tension , Muhammed Danso alias 50 and Lamin Bah on or about 10 July 2023, at Mamuda village conspired among themselves, with intent to commit a felony-therein wit: stealing, burgled the house of one Omar Sawanehand stole a TVS motorbike worth D 45,000 as well as one ENDC motorbike worth D 50,000. The TVS motorbike belongs to Omar Sawaneh whilst the EDC belongs to the UDP.
