The six best national spelling bee titleholders will represent The Gambia in the African Spelling Bee contest in Ethiopia later this year.
Mariama Darboe of CRR junior category, Mariama E.Jassey of WCR junior category, Muhammad Barrow ofWCR junior category, Assan Njie of NBR senior category Saiduna, Muhammed Darboe of KMC senior category and Fatoumatta Bintou Sonko of KMC senior category will travel to Ethiopia in December to participate in the continental spelling bee competition.
Salimatou Foundation for Education (SaFE) is a right-to-education civil society organization that promotes and advocates for the provision of free, safe, relevant and high-quality education to all people. The foundation has been organizing spelling bee competitions to boost the critical, intellectual, and cognitive capacity of youngpupils.
Speaking during one of these competitions held on Saturday at Ebunjan Theatre, CEO of SaFE, SalimataFatty, expressed delight in the event and urged the participants to make the best of the opportunity.
Mr. Essa Marong represented the Permanent Secretary of MOBSE at the competition and according to him, the contest was a testament to the power of collaboration between organizations that share a common goal to promote access, equitable, and quality education for all.
“Our Ministry is committed to ensuring that every child in our country has the opportunity to receive a high-quality education. Education is not just a fundamental right but also the cornerstone of a brighter future for our youth and our nation as a whole,” he said.
“However, we are delighted and deeply grateful to the organization for spearheading this amazing initiative; the National Spelling Bee Finals. This competition not only showcases the linguistic prowess of our young and brilliant students but also instills in them a passion for learning and excellence,” he added.
