Pap Ndow appeals to court to fast-track his case

Abdoulie Ndow who is well known as Pap Ndow has appealed to Magistrates Ben Faal of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court to fast-track his case because he has been in remand for a year now.

His appeal came up when the presiding magistrate wanted to adjourn his case to October.

“Can you bring it to a closer date, please consider the fact that am remanded and Mile II is not easy”.

The presiding magistrate said she was aware of that fact, saying the court would determine the date according to (scheduled work) in the diary.

“Sometimes it is not me, but the diary and your case is not in fact in our diary but your lawyer. He is busy on the date we want to take, so what can we do?”

After consulting with the court clerks and Pap’s lawyer, the case was then adjourned to Wednesday 20th September for continuation.

Before the adjournment, Pap Ndow told the court that the accusation that he received D2.7 million from one Aminata Faye was false.

He acknowledged knowing the complainant but told the court that they were only doing business. “She gave me money to purchase a bedroom set and later gave me some money again to buy a car for her. A car I wanted to buy from the USA she said she wanted the car, and she gave me an advance payment for that,” he explained.

He said he also received D30,000 from Amina Faye for her brother to have a shop.

“If you put all that money together is not up to half a million, am surprised if she is demanding D2.7 million”.

Mr Pap Ndow is standing trial for obtaining money by false pretence. He denied the charges. He has been in Mile 2 for over a year. The complaint has gone back to Europe and left the case with the police persecution.
