A certain Babucarr Jallow has found himself in court following his indictment by the police for being in possession of 50g of marijuana.
Jallow, who is in his youth, appeared before Principal Magistrate Sallah Mbai of the BrikamaMagistrate’s Court on Monday.
Prosecutors are trying to prove the allegation that he was on or around 20 June 2023, found in possession of 50g of Cannabis in Sinchu Sorrievillage in the West Coast Region of The Gambia.
Jallow denied the allegation when the charge sheet was read and interpreted to him on his first court appearance on Monday. He also sought bail and this was not disputed by prosecuting Officer CIP Omar Jallow of the state anti-narcotics agency.
CIP Jallow meanwhile applied for an adjournment to enable him to secure his first witness. His application was granted and the accused was given bail in the sum of D75,000.
Principal Magistrate Mbai, however, warned the accused that if he jumped bail, his surety would be arrested and compelled to show cause why the D75,000 should not be forfeited to the State.
