The Minister of Transport, Works and Infrastructure, Ebrima Sillah, was on Tuesday forced to withdraw four motions due to unsigned documents but some of the NAMs have complained about the withdrawals.
Minister Sillah was yesterday expected to table the motions on Consideration and Ratification of the African Road Safety Charter, Consideration and Ratification of the UN Road Safety Convention and Consideration and Ratification of the UN Road Safety Convention on Road Signs & Signals (1968), and Consideration and Ratification of the UN Road Safety Convention on European Agreement for the International Carriages of Dangerous Goods by Road, 1957.
His withdrawal of the motions brought yesterday’s Parliamentary session to a close.
The NAM for Jeshwang Sheriff Sarr told The Voice that the legislature cannot ratify the unsigned motions.
The Wuli East NAM Suwaibou Touray explained to this medium that the inability of the government to ensure the motions were signed before they reached the floor of the House was ‘an oversight’.
The Busumbala legislator Muhammed Kanteh described the withdrawal of the motions as regrettable and advised that ministers should ensure motions are signed before they are tabled before the Parliament for ratification.
He explained that Sillah’s withdrawal of the motions was the second or third of its kind by ministers. The BusumbalaNAM lamented that NAMs would appear at the House only to be told by ministers that they(ministers) were withdrawing the motions as they(motions)could not fulfill the criteria for their ratification.
Many legislators, who spoke to The Voice, expressed concern over the trend and demanded an immediate stop to what, they described, as frivolous.
