The West Coast Region will benefit from $1m worth of medicines and medical equipment from Harlem Hospital annually, the Chairman of the Brikama Area Council, Yankuba Darboe, revealed on Monday.
As he spoke to reporters shortly after his appearance at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court yesterday, Darboe informed the press that the annual health support will be provided by Harlem Hospital in New York.
He explained that his recent visit to New York offered him the opportunity to engage the Doctors at the Harlem Hospital, who promised him that, at least, one million dollars worth of medical equipment and medicines would be given to the West Coast Region, Brikama Health Center and other health facilities across the West Coast.
“This support will come in material form annually, which will include scanners, X-ray machines, among many other medical materials, that are unavailable in the country,” he disclosed.
The BAC chair revealed that some of the items to be brought into the country by Harlem University will be used stuff while others will be new.
Yanks Darboe expressed the optimism that the West Coast Region’s issues with medicines will become history thanks to the collaboration that he succeeded in establishing between BAC and Harlem Hospital during his recent New York trip.
