Guinea Bissau authorities have released 17 Gambian trucks that were impounded in Guinea Bissau to members of The Gambia Transport Union, revealed an official statement.
The statement made available to The Voice on Tuesdaydisclosed that the vehicles were loaded with logs bound for The Gambia. The trucks, according to the statement, werereleased following the swift intervention of President AdamaBarrow and his counterpart President Umaro Sissoco Embalóof Guinea Bissau.
According to the statement, President Barrow dispatched a Gambian delegation comprising Foreign Minister Dr. Momodou Tangara, Trade Minister Baboucarr Joof, and the Director for Regional Integration and Head of ECOWAS National Office, Ms. Ndeye Tabara Touray to Bissau and after a successful conclave with President Embaló, the impounded vehicles were released unconditionally.
Meanwhile, the Gambia Government has urged all operators involved in cross-border activities to have proper documentation that meets the requirements of trading partners within the subregion to avoid similar incidents.
