A housewife Jainaba Dem last week testified at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court as the first prosecution witness in an ongoing assault case filed against a student.
Giving her evidence before Principal Magistrate Sallah Mbai, Dem told the court that she was busy cooking in the kitchen when the accused, Pabi Manneh, assaulted her niece (name withheld).
She adduced that she found the accused beating her niece but was uncertain of hearing the accused’s voice, threatening to kill her.
Dem testified that her family sat over the issue following which her husband sent her to withdraw the case from the court.
The accused is being tried on two counts of common assault and threatening violence contrary to Section 82 of the Criminal Code, Cap 10:01, Volume 3, Laws of The Gambia.
The particulars of the offense read that on or about 27 August 2023, at Lamin Makumbaya in the West Coast Region of the Republic of The Gambia assaulted the complainant (name withheld) all over her body. He was also accused of threatening to kill the complainant.
