President Adama Barrow has wondered why NPP supporters have been jumping ship to join the opposition, bragging that the NPP is richer than the rest of the political parties in the country.
“If there is any party in this country that has both material and financial wealth, then it’s the NPP. So, why are you moving from the NPP to join the opposition,” Barrow queried during a meeting with representatives of CRR communities at his home village of Mankamang Kunda.
The community reps. were at the President’s home to pay him a courtesy visit.
The NPP regional chairman for CRR on Monday led a delegation of community reps. to Jimara, where some people, who claimed to be members of the UDP, shifted allegiance to the ruling party.
The President further questioned the reason(s) why NPP supporters can ditch the NPP for the opposition but was quick to add that he derives joy from welcoming new converts to his party.
The President acknowledged that he’s especially excited to have supporters of the UDP join the NPP. “We don’t want people to desert the party (NPP) but people should keep coming because we are building the country and giving peace to the nation,” President Barrow stated.
Meanwhile, the Gambian leader pointed out that despite the opportunity to vacation in the US, Turkey, or Australia, he decided to go to his native village because that is where he was born and bred.
“I can go to America, Turkey, or Australia to spend my holidays but who knows me in America? Who knows me in Turkey? No-one knows me there. Where people know me is where I was born and grew up. I will not have any better place on earth than here (Mankamang Kunda),” Barrow told the visitors as he called for more people to jump on the NPP bandwagon.
