A UK-based group calling itself Concerned Gambians yesterday took to the streets to protest against issues affecting Gambians back home.
The protest took place at the Gambia’s High Commission in the UK at 57 Kensington Court, London W8 5GD while other protesters were at the Nigerian High Commission at 9 Northumberland Avenue London WC2N 5BX, UK.
The protest was also extended to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office at King Charles Street, London, SW1A 2AH from 11 A.M. to 3 P.M.
Protesters served letters to all these institutions aboutissues of concern to them.
The protest brought together UK-based Gambians, holding placards and banners, demanding the resuscitation of the draft new constitution. The protesters also condemned the privatization of strategic national assets such as the Senegambia Bridge, the rule of law situation in the country, and “endemic” corruption.
The “police intimidation”, a third term in office for President Barrow, diaspora voting, and the “extravagant”spending of public money are some of the issues at the heart of Thursday’s protest.
