‘Gambian Nationals Killed in Heavy Bombardment Around Gambia/Senegal Border’

By: Nyima Sillah

Two Gambian nationals were killed in a heavy bombardment around the Gambia/Senegal border a little over a week ago, the Foni Bintang Karanairepresentative in the National Assembly confirmed.

“There was a heavy bombardment around theCasamance border in which two people were killed. They were killed and later taken to Ziguinchor. I called the Mayor in Senegal, who confirmed to me that the corpses were in Ziguinchor and they would bring them to Janack because the individuals were natives of Janack. The corpses were later brought to Janackvillage and were buried on Thursday,” NAM BakaryBadgie told The Voice.

He explained that the two people were grazing their cattle when they got killed.

According to him, it’s a long-standing practice for cattle herders in that part of The Gambia and Senegal to cross the border in search of pastures for their animals.

Badjie described the deaths of the two Gambians as a targeted killing as, according to him, people had been going on with their normal businesses in the border areas without let or hindrance.

“So, the targeting of our people and killing them is what worries me,” Badjie asserted.

He explained that the bombardment found the deceased at the other side of the border in Casamance, arguing that: “Even if they were in Casamance, the Senegalese soldiers should not have killed them just like that.”

Meanwhile, Badjie lamented that two of his constituents, who were arrested by the Senegalese military a few weeks ago, were still under the custody of the Senegalese police.
