Action Aid donates textbooks to boost standards and performance at Lower Basic Schools

Action Aid International The Gambia Juffureh Office Local Rights Programme (LRP 9) on Tuesday presented 540 learning materials of Maths, English, and Integrated Studies for grades 3 and 4 to Albreda,  Pakau Njogu and Kerr Mama Lower Basic Schools of Upper Nuimi, North Bank Region to enhance learning and teaching.

 The support forms part of piloting Promoting Rights Studies PRS in schools in 2021 to find out the gaps using three rights Rights to Quality Education, Rights to Good Infrastructure, and Rights to Accountability Schools. 

Saikou Darboe, Action Aid International TheGambia Programme Manager Juffureh Office underscored the importance of providing support to education to enhance learning and teaching. 

 He noted that the recent study conducted on right-to-school revealed that there are gaps for students to have access to textbooks for grades 3 to 4 on English, Maths, and Integrated Studies. 

The support aimed at complementing government efforts and expressed the need for massive investment in education to attain quality education.

 He called on the school management to ensure proper utilization and up keeping of the donated textbooks.

Mod Secka, Cluster Monitor who deputized for Regional Education Director thanked Action Aid for the donation in complementing the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education in promoting standards in learning and education and also to attain quality education. 

He tasked beneficiary schools to take proper inventory of the books and ensure effective management and usage of them. 

Mr. Secka called on NGOs and philanthropists to emulate Action Aid to complement the government in the quest to boost performance towards the realization of attaining quality education. 

Saikou F Bah, Programme Coordinator noted that the intervention aimed to make an impact on the educational development of children and empower teachers to effectively teach Maths, English, and Integrated Studies to enable students to understand well.

 He hailed the Mother’s clubs and School Management Committees for their support of the sponsorship unit on message collections and retention of children in schools. 

Programme Coordinator Bah reiterated the need for school authorities to provide and share a progress report on the possible impact of the donation on the attainment of academic performance to grades 3 and 4, noting that this helps to inform Action Aid for future possible expansion. 

Muhamed Saho, Head Teacher of Albreda Lower Basic, Hassan Ceesay, and Ousman Senghore Vice Principal of Pakau Njoguand Kerr Mama Basic Cycle Schools all expressed joy for the donation and noted that it would contribute to promoting rights in education.

Babu Bah, Chairman, and Muhammad Yaka Ndong Quranic Teacher at Pakau Njogu Basic School described the donation as historic and noted it would contribute to the attainment of standard learning and teaching. 

The presentation was attended by school administrators, teachers, mothers’ clubs, and teachers from the three beneficiary schools.
