The Gambia Police Force (GPF) is working on establishing a highway unit to enhance the free flow of traffic on the country’s highways, The Voice was informed.
According to the spokesperson of GPF Cadet ASP Modou Musa Sisawo, the GPF is currently undergoing an ambitious reform process as part of initiatives to improve the quality of policing in the country.
ASP Sisawo explained that the mandate of the proposed unit will involve the removal from the highway of vehicles found to be obstructing the smooth flow of vehicular traffic.
“The unit will be responsible for ensuring that vehicles on the road that are causing a violation of traffic rules are brought to book,” he stated.
The police PRO expressed optimism that the proposed unit will contribute to the easing or elimination of congestion on the country’s highways.
