A Senegalese national was yesterday arraigned at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court for allegedly cutting electric wires at the Gambia High School.
Omar Faal on Thursday appeared before Magistrate Muhammed Krubally on charges of theft and assault.
According to the details of the case, Faal on or about 24 October 2023, at Gambia High School in Banjul, willfully and unlawfully cut the electric wires of newly constructed classroomsat the school.
The wires were valued at D32,850.
Faal also stands accused of assaulting one Musa F. Ben by hitting him with a chair and thereby causing him actual bodily harm.
He denied wrongdoing.
Corporal 5309, prosecuting objected to bail for the accused as according to him, Faal is currently undergoing another trial.
However, Magistrate Krubally said he took note of the reason for the prosecution’s objection but pointed out that bail is a right guaranteed by the Constitution and that the alleged offenses are bailable.
Consequently, he granted Faal a D50,000 bail on all three counts, and as part of the bail conditions, he must provide a “responsible” Gambian surety, who must furnish the registrar with correct contact numbers, address and valid ID card or passport.
