North Bank Gets New project for Communities

A new project titled ‘’Communities Resilience Building in Sustainable Marine Resources Management and Food Security Project’’ was recently launched in North Bank Region.

The oneyear project came as the campaign to mitigate climate change in Africa requires concerted efforts. It will be implemented by Njawara Agricultural Training Centre (NATC) with funding from Global Environment Facility.

The project aims at introducing appropriate Climate Smart Technologies to Oyster farmers in Memmeh and Orchard for Disabled Association in Jokadou and Oyster farmers in SAMI TENDA of Upper Nuimi and support Agroecology Platform to help improve oyster production and build resilience against the sweeping effect of climate change. 

Alpha Sey, Project Manager of GEF in NATCemphasised the importance of the project in improving livelihoods as it aimed to transform farmers’ capacities in effective environmental practices on oyster collection, through trainings, exchange visits and provide them with the required materials. 

Regarding orchard for disabled association, Mr. Sey, was expectant that the support would contribute to enhance participation to food production and economic development.

Officially launching the one-year project on behalf of the Governor of the regionBabucarr Touraythe regional Ombudsman expressed appreciation to NATC for complementing government’s efforts in ensuring food security and environment protection for the country. He described the project as unique, hoping that it would strengthen oyster collection and also empower disabled association. Touray, also called on communities to be vigilant in planting more trees and desist from illegal loggings. 

Salifu Bagayogo, President of Disable Association hailed NATC for its timely support to disable members such as capacity building in vegetable production and provision of fifty (50) micro tables for production, and promised to continue working with the centre

Hadijatou Jobe, of SAMI TENDA expected that the said project would strengthen oyster collection techniques and enhances income.
