The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Thursday awarded four successful students as part of its motivational approach for best performing candidates in the 2022 examinations.
The students took part in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination ( WASSCE) and Gambia Basic Education Certificate Examination ( GBECE) and came out with flying colours.
The awardees were drawn from St Peter’s Senior Secondary School, Gambia Methodist Academy, SOS Upper Basic School ant St Therese Upper Basic School all in The Gambia.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education ( MoBSE), Ebrima Sisawo, said the awardees secured their exams grades via hard work, commitment and dedication to their studies and frowned at all forms of examination malpractices. He also informed the audience about government efforts in providing conducive learning environment for the pupils to foster quality education in the country.
Gracing the award ceremony in Banjul, Head of National Office / WAEC Pa Sambou Baldeh, confirmed that the academic records of the awardees have showcased that they deserve the awards. ‘’They also achieved their grades without slightest examination malpractice’’, Baldeh asserted.
He went on to say that the criteria for the award may be stringent but not beyond the capabilities of the candidates.
Speaking on behalf of his colleague awardees, Danie IPOsuoha, from St Peter’s Senior Secondary School expressed profound thanks and appreciation to his school and WAEC for the award and the cash prize they have received. And that he urged students in junior and senior schools to emulate their good academic examples.
The recent awards ceremony marked the fourth (4) of WAEC excellence awards, constituted by the Council’s Board of Trustees to recognize outstanding performance and motivation for prospect candidates for WASSCE and GBECE respectively.
