The founder of Unique Group and the proprietor of Global Properties have formalized the takeover of PSV Wellingara Football Club.

Messrs. Papa Yusupha Njie and Saul Frazer have now taken over the club and they’ve already rebaptized it to Unique Global Football Club.

The owner of TMT Football Club Omar Saidykhan has meanwhile renamed Abuko United TMT Women’s FC after purchasing the team.

Gamtel and PSV Wellingara, who were relegated from the first division to the second tier this season, have all lately changed ownership as the new season begins, according to GFF’s Facebook page.

Women’s first-division side Abuko United and Medical Football Club have also changed hands.

Senegalese football agent now football administrator bought Gamteland has changed the name to Serekunda Football Club whilst KemoCeesay and his Dutch partner Ari Terrefers have renamed Bansang-based Medical football club to Gambia Dutch Lions after buying it.

The Chief Executive Officer of the GFF, Lamin Jassey, described the takeovers as a demonstration of the “remarkable” leap in Gambian football under the stewardship of GFF President Lamin Kabba Bajo, adding that more investment in domestic football should be expected as it gets more attractive.

“There is a complete paradigm shift in the way that our domestic league and football in general is observed now. All these developments are exceptional for our game but more so the one of Unique Global FC; it is the first private sector-led purchase of a league club in The Gambia and we expect that to be a game-changer,” he told the GFF Media. He added: “The domestic league is gaining more and more momentum now and this is having a direct effect on our National Teams. When you look at the progress of the U-20 team in the last few years and the senior national team too, the overwhelming majority of the players there started their careers in the Gambian league. Also, our league is now broadcast to a global audience through a partnership with FIFA under the Eleven Sports platform.”
