Chinese Medical Team in the Gambia, together with ConfuciousInstitute and a Chinese in the Gambia earlier today donated foods and medical items to the SOS Children Center earleirtoday.
The donated items which worths more than D100,000 included, bags of rice, cooking oil, Sugar, flour, school materials and medical items among others.
Speaking at handing over event the leader of the Chinese Medical Team Dr. Wang Yong said, they usally comes to the SOS center to provide support which led to this gesture of donation and free medical check up.
He said, this is also part of the efforts in improving the partnership between China and the Gambia.
“We want to cultivate a better next generation so that this children can make better contribution,” he stressed.
Dr. Yong added that, this is part of their effort helping children who are in need and the SOS children village is the organisationthat they are familiar with.
While receiving the gesture the National Director of the SOS Centre Jean Pierre Kouamin said, the items brought by the chinese team is a mean of contributing to the efforts of the SOS, in order to take care of the children in their houses.
“We are very happy because the work with us is becoming higher, because of Inflation and other challenges we facing,” Mr, Jean stressed.
He added that, the SOS is currently taking care of more than 200 children and young people in their facilities in Basse which has 20 children under care and the rest at Bakorteh.
“When it comes to the food stuff we have to provide for the families in our facility on daily basis, and this donation is really a help on our budget, because we are not going to buy what is already purchased, and the medical support is really helpful,” he stressed.
SOS Director, said they are grateful to the Chinese Medical Team for the gesture, which he discribed as not the first time being done by the team.
