The Central Project Coordination Unit (CPCU) under the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA), on Thursday, embarked on a joint nationwide media field visit to their various project areas.
The joint field visit included media personnel with activities targetting beneficiaries of the Gambia Inclusiveness and Resilience Agriculture Value-Chain Development project called GIRAV.
The tour is meant to create awareness about the interventions of the GIRAV project, successes registered, and challenges faced by beneficiaries.
The project also seeks to boost agricultural production and productivity through the promotion of climate-smart agriculture, the use of appropriate technologies and innovation, as well as enhanced water management.
Given this, the project supported food and seed-insecure farmers with an assortment of climate-smart seeds and other inputs worth over twenty-one million Dalasi for the current cropping season. Hence the monitoring visit to assess the outcome.
In this tour exercise, the team visited Ndofan in Lower Niumi in NBR to meet Abdul Aziz Marong, a renowned maize farmer supported by GIRAV and also proceeded to Wally Ndonganother maize farmer in Kerr Ngorr, Jokadou, and Fatou Ceesay, a renowned rice farmer in Jokadou Tambana and as well as Toroba in Lower Baddibou.
The beneficiary farmers commended the GIRAV project and highlighted the positive impacts it has on their livelihoods.
More places of visit by the team included CRRN, Jaylan in Nianija and Modou Joof, Assan Njie an agriculture extension officer in Lower Saloum, Muhammed Drammeh – a GIRAV project beneficiary among others made remarks about the project and commended the World Bank for its support.
