The fourth edition of West African Caravan which brought together participants from West African countries ended here on Thursday 30 November.
The theme revolved around the Global Convergence on Land, Water, Seeds, Peasants Agro-ecology and Forest.
The overall objective of the 4th edition of the Caravan (2023) was to contribute to the strengthening of grassroots communities in order to challenge decision-makers to improve policies and legislation with the involvement of traditional/customary leaders for inclusive, progressive, fair and equitable governance.
Addressing the meeting held at Friendship Hotel in Bakau, the West Coast Region Governor, OusmanBadjie said he was delighted and grateful for the Gambia to host the 4th edition of the Caravan (2023).
“This Caravan initiative in our sub- region will help to raise the awareness of the communities in the stopover towns and cities, of the different itinerary countries on the issues and challenges related to the environment, land, water, farmer’s seeds and the need to preserve them for present and future generations.’’
“As the regional governor we are equally concerned about issues related to land and seeds as mentioned above. The coming of the caravan in my region is also timely to make such an advocacy for the benefit of the people and the local authority,’’ Badjie added.
The 4th edition of the West African Caravan hosted by National Association of Coordinating Farmer’s Organization attracted participants from: Mauritania,Sierra Leone, Guinea Bissau, Guinea Conakry, Maliand Senegal among others.
