Wetland International Dakar Office in conjunction with Department of Parks and Wildlife Management (DPWM) and Nuimi National Park (NNP) in the recent past conducted Management Plan validation exercise for NNP in order to ensure effective and efficient usage of natural resources. The said evaluation was conducted in Essau, North Bank Region with financial support from European Union (EU).
Chief George L Sonko, of Lower Nuimi described the validation of management plan as important, noting that it would enhance effective management and coordination on the protection and preservation of natural resources. Chief Sonko said the involvement of fishermen, oyster collectors and livestock farmers is crucial in shaping up strategies and methodologies in advancing all-inclusive participation. Management plan serve as a tool, benefits of parks and co management of key actors are fundamental in protecting and preserve.
Ousman Keita, Representative of Chairman of Site Management Committee noted that the management of park, call for more resource mobilization to enhance effective utilization of natural resources. He disclosed that there is need for more support in the form of mobility Vehicles and motor cycles and river boat to enhance monitoring of activities.
Baboucar Sagnia, Project Manager of Wetland International Dakar Office described the validation of management plan as important as it would enhance collective efforts to protect and preserve to promote birds watching. He noted that the information generated from the validation would help in decision making and enhance social mobilization.
Michelle Mendy, councilor Essau ward said the management of park would contribute to address food security and enhance resilient building.
