The management of Njawara Cooperative Society or locally known as ‘secco’ has hailed President Adama Barrow for pegging farmgateprice of groundnuts at D38,000 per ton, raising it from D32,000 per ton of last year’s.
Speaking to the Voice, Sheikh Abas Bah, President of Njawara secco or buying point also commended Barrow for providing affordable fertilizer to farmers.
Bah noted that the support extended to farmers during the farming season contributed greatly in boosting food production, as well as due to the timely delivery of seeds and reduction of fertilizer.
He disclosed that the secco was closed for 10 years, but thanked to the Director General Muhamed Njie GGC for the trust bestowed on new management to handle the operations under the leadership of Sheikh Abas Bah. The seccowas opened last year and they were able to purchase 20 tons and whilst two weeks into 2023 trade the secco has been able to buy over 100 tons of groundnuts and thanks to GGC and AGIB of ensuring that cash is available and there is no credit buying at the secco.
Pa Panneh, the Alkalo of Njawara said the opening of secco attracted farmers from 17 villages along the northern belt from Kerr PatehKoreh to Njie Kunda of Lower Badibou.
He uses the opportunity to call on GGC to support them in putting up permanent structure to safeguard farm produce and accommodation for secco staff.
Yaya Sanyang expressed delight that farmers are coming with their nuts and notes that GGC and AGIB are well-prepared for 2023 trade season. He thanked the management of the secco and farmers for their support.
