Omar Sanyang was on Thursday appeared before principal magistrate Anna O. Mendy of the BrikamaMagistrates’ Court for allegedly raping a 9-year-old girl in Sifoe Village.
The prosecution was represented by Corporal 5099 Ngum. The accused person was not represented by a lawyer.
The indictment disclosed that Omar Sanyang had allegedly done the act on the 27th day of November 2023 at Sifoe Village, West Coast Region. He was alleged to have intentionally, with coercive circumstance engaged in sexual act to raping a 9 year old girl, name withheld.
After hearing the charge read against him, the accused person denied any liability.
Corporal 5099 Ngum applied to the court to transfer the matter to the high court.
Then the prosecution applied to have the accused person remanded at the Mile II Central Prison pending determination of the case, too.
Principal magistrate A.O. Mendy granted both applications made by the prosecution and transferred the matter to high court. She also ordered that the accused person be remanded pending the hearing of the case.
