Gambia’s legendary referee also seen as one of Africa’s top-notch referees Bakary Gassama has officially announced his retirement from officiating the beautiful game.
His scintillating career saw him officiate numerous prestigious football competitions such as two FIFA World Cup tournaments, the U-20 World Cup, the Club World Cup, AFCON, the CAF Champions League, the Confederation Cup, and the Arab Cup.
“Bakary Gassama’s retirement marks the conclusion of a storied career that has had a lasting impact on the sport. His legacy extends beyond the field, influencing aspiring referees and contributing to the overall development of football officiating in Africa. The professionalism, impartiality, and precision with which he approached each match set a standard for referees globally,” the GFF website wrote.

His retirement leaves a void that will be challenging to fill, but his influence and legacy will continue to inspire future generations of referees.
