Over the weekend, Lamin Touray was officially coronated as the Head Chief of Busumbala District in a ceremony held at the Lamin football field in Lamin village, West Coast Region.
The ceremony was attended by a series of dignitaries including Ministers, Paramount Chiefs, the Governor of the West Coast Region, politicians, and others.
Speaking shortly after his coronation, the new Chief LaminTouray, described the day as a historic day because since the demarcation of Kombo North into three constituencies he was the first person appointed as the chief for those districts.
“I think, this will go down in the anal of history. My father was the district chief of the entire Kombo North before the demarcation for over twenty years,” he stated. He said it is not an easy task noting that time has changed greatly and the population has increased.
He highlighted possible challenges lying before him saying land is very scarce and “I am expected to have a lot of problems over land issues from the people. However, a unification strategy will be my great asset and I will unite the people.”
He, therefore, urged Gambians to unite saying the citizens all share the same families, adding unity is the bedrock of development so “We should not allow politics to separate us rather we should think beyond for the future of our country.”
Chief Touray prayed to Almighty to guide him on the right path to execute his duty as expected.
Governor Ousman Bojang of West Coast Region amplified it that the President has appointed Chief Touray as the chief because of a reason and he believed that you can deliver to expectation.
He told the people of Lamin Constituency that they had something which was not available for long.
“I am from Lamin and I urged all the people to support the new chief because he is young but Allah has decided already,” the Governor said and implored the people of the constituencies to desist from acts of slanderous and betrayal.
To the new chief, he advised him to fight against tribalism and remember that he had a greater task ahead of him.
