The Deputy Commissioner General and Head of Domestic Taxes (DCG), Mr. Essa Jallow, has strongly advised GRA staff to always demonstrate high sense of commitment towards assignment given to them.
He was quick to challenge regional GRA staff to always act with professionalism in accordance with the Revenue Act and respect for hierarchy and adopt culture of team spirit which GRA was known for.
Mr. Jallow gave this goodwill message and advice during the recently concluded GRA Board Trek joint meeting with GRA staff and other sister security forces.
DCG Jallow went on to say that GRA Board and top Management decided to embark on the annual trek with the objective to meet their staff on posting, interact with them, chart on challenges affecting their effectiveness and efficiency in delivering among other achievements registered by various customs posts or domestic taxes
According to Mr. Jallow the GRA Board was very impressed with what they found and seen on the ground especially the cordial working relationship between the GRA staff and their sister security forces. He advised them to continue the momentum for the fact that they are all working towards one objective which was national interest.
He said GRA was given a responsibility to collect revenue for national development but cannot do it in the absence of security and stability.
Therefore, harmonizing efforts in complimenting each other’s mandate is well appreciated, he encouraged them to continue in the national interest.
According to Mr. Jallow the GRA Board and Management will not only sit at the main office waiting for reports but also felt it necessary to go and meet their staff which will serve as a motivation and morale booster.
Mr. Jallow further called on the staff to have respect for leadership and adopt culture of team spirit, unity and deepen cooperation among sister security forces which will greatly help GRA staff to collect the much-needed revenue for government.
For his part, the Governor of Upper River Region, Hon. Samba Bah, expressed profound gratitude to the GRA Board and Management headed by the Commissioner General for the foresight to meet their staff at posting trying to know their working condition affecting their operation.
‘’I personally, must commend the leadership of GRA for taking up this giant step which will no doubt will go a long way in boosting the moral of GRA staff on the ground and encourage to do more to the best of their ability,’’ he emphasized.
Governor Bah was quick to extol the Customs Manager, Seedy Kinteh for the role he played in Upper River Region, since his assuming office as a manager.
He is very instrumental and supportive towards national interest and also, he is very socialist to the community of Basse. Hon. Bah went on to recognize Mr. Kinteh as among the most hard-working manager ever posted in Basse during his tenure as a governor in Basse.
Governor Bah equally commended the Management and staff of GRA for the unprecedented achievement of their annual revenue target. He said that showed their commitment, dedication, hard work and loyalty to the state. Governor Bah assured the leadership of GRA that his office would continue to work hand in glove with their regional staff in Basse to go around and ensure that taxes are paid.
He further appealed to GRA to increase fuel coupon to enable the team to patrol as there are many porous borders and some business community, must be met in order to pay their taxes obligation. The request was immediately granted by the commissioner general all geared towards collecting more revenue for national development.
