The Chairman of the Brikama Area Council (BAC), Mr. Yankuba Darboe, has accused the government of plotting against the BAC to derail the council from achieving its development goals.
“The West Coast Region voted for a change and put us at the helm of affairs. We are in that
cause to help develop the region. The government is fighting against us so that we cannot
achieve our development goals. The reality is that the government should stop interfering
in the council matters,” Chairman Darboe stressed in an exclusive interview with The Voice conducted during a BAC-organized cleaning exercise on Saturday.
He pointed out that if the Barrow administration was desirous of developing the West Coast Region, it could’ve done so during the tenure of Sheriffo Sonko, saying Sonko was Barrow’s political affiliate.
The BAC chair contended that the central government should allow BAC to deliver to the people of the West Coast Region if it doesn’t want to help the council.
“By the end of our first mandate, the people of the region will decide whether we have
done what’s expected from us or not,” Darboe asserted.
He confirmed that the BAC now has access to its account but lamented that the council’s besieged CEO, Modou Jonga, is still a signatory to the account.
Darboe meanwhile urged the regional governor Ousman Bojangto desist from partisan politics and serve the collective interest of the people of the West Coast Region. He pointed out that despite Governor Bojang’s directive for the council to cease developing a market for displaced Brikama market vendors, his council will proceed.
