LGCI Resumes Public Hearing Today

After a three-week hiatus, the Local Government Commission of Inquiry (LGCI) will resume public hearings today, according to a press release from the Commission.

Before it went into the three-week Christmas and New Year recess, the Commission heard testimonies from over 60 witnesses, including auditors, bankers, revenue collectors, procurement officers, and senior officials of local councils.

The LGCI was last year constituted to carry out a full and impartial investigation into the local councils and related matters.

“The inquiry body has been tasked to do a holistic and fair review of the financial and administrative operations of the Councils to enhance transparency and accountability,” the commission said in its press release.

The hearing on Basse Area Council has ended and the commission will now continue with Mansakonko Area Council.

The commission said other councils will follow soon.
