By: Binta Jaiteh

Omar Jatto Jammeh, the independent lawmaker for Janjangbureh has disclosed that his community has disapproved government’s unkeptpromises of rehabilitating roads and restoration of streetlights within the community.

NAM Jammeh made the disclosure in an interview with this reporter shortly after the JanjanburehBicentenary celebrations.

He said the government had promised to develop the cultural heritage venue (Tynsita), among others, but that the promise was later cancelled with a new promise.

He described the Janjanbureh Bicentenary as a great initiative, adding that the idea was well-conceived and appreciated by members of the community.

According to him, it was also observed that theLocal Organizing Committee’s involvement in the commemorations was minimal throughout and thepromise made by the executive to come up withdevelopment initiatives all blown out and allowing people only to gather for endless speeches.

The lawmaker further stated that the community was expecting to be the host of the event and would also take the lead in the process only to realize that things were centered on one individual, taking unilateral decisions that led to total failure of the event.

‘’The National Organizing Committee was established and launched by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture and the said committee did very well for a successful event but couldn’t be achieved due to one person having control over the steering wheel,’’ Jammeh maintained.
