The Community of Badibou Saaba has hailed Engineers Without Borders in Germany for boosting vegetable productionfor its women gardeners.

The engineers provided a borehole that supply sufficient water for 250 vegetable producers. The partnership with Engineers Without Borders also resulted in theconstruction of standard toilet facility. The partnership also led to a plan to construct cold store and market stalls for marketing vegetables.

Jarra Kamaso, the lady President of FANMANJI ASSOCIATION commonly known as German Vegetable Garden, described the partnership with Engineers Without Borders as a chance in transforming vegetable production and empowerment of women and youths.

She said the upgrading and expansion of the vegetable garden provided opportunity for intense year-round vegetable production.

Nao Camara, a local engineer trained by Engineers Without Borders underscored that the skills transfer contributed in strengthening farmers’ capacity to undertake maintenance work on the operations of the borehole.

He noted that since the establishment ofthe partnership with Engineers WithoutBorders, the community witnessed major development in improving vegetable production.

Camara used the moment to call on theDepartment of Agriculture to extend supervision and training to enable farmers adopt recommended practices to boost production and create the important link of agribusiness.

The women, however, described marketing of vegetables as a challenge and therefore called on buyers to patronise them.
