The United Democratic Party (UDP) official
Sulayman Dampha, has accused Momodou Sabally, of placing personal interest before national interest which prompted his joining the NPP.
Dampha, the UDP Bundung Constituency Public Relations Officer (PRO), made the claims in an exclusive interview with the Voice Newspaper on Thursday January 25, 2024.
Sabally has defected to the NPP, citing that the move is based on the interests of himself, the UDP, and the nation as a whole. Arguing this pronouncement made by Sabally,Dampha said the defection to NPP is based on only personal interest as Sabally doesn’t talk about the pressing national concerns anymore.
As PRO of his party, he vehemently disagreed with Sabally’s claims that “youths are happy.”
‘’This is not the actuality in relation to the life youth of the country find themselves. We have been fighting with him to eradicate corruption within the system, so he should be talking about these issues when he joined the NPP. Youth will be happy if their parents and family members receive good medical care at our hospitals and health centres,” he retorted.
Dampha also talked about the high electricity bills citizens are faced with causing havoc for many workers and businesses.
He went on to observe that Sabally used to criticize the Barrow government in many fronts but that stopped since his joining with the NPP. ‘’How do you expect youth to be happy in such conditions?” he questioned.
Dampha claimed that he consulted the youth on the deportation deal made between the Gambia government and the Germans saying that the youth expressed their discontent with the agreement. He accused Sabally of not talking about this agreement anymore as he used to do before leaving for NPP.
“The business is not going normal in the Gambia because of the continued depreciation of our Gambian dalasi, and this is impacting negatively on the national economy. Momodou Sabally was accusing the finance ministry of not handling the economy well when he was in the UDP. The national economy continues to cripple but Sabally again failed to comment on this,” he remarked.
He enjoined Momodou Sabally to tell the government to focus on: ‘’improving the lives of the voter population, creating more employment for the youth, working to address irregular migration, and improving agriculture, health and more importantly to control the national economy for better Gambia rather than been used by the NPP to make revenge against the UDP.’’
