The alleged murderer of former HM Forex Bureau staff appeared for the first time at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court but his case has been transferred to the high court on jurisdictional grounds.

Senegalese national Haruna Tine was on Monday arraigned before Principal Magistrate Sallah Mbaye for allegedly stabbing Fatoumatta Kargbo to death on or about 19 January 2024.

According to court documents, Tine on or about 19 January 2024, at HM Bureau De Change at Westfield, with aforethought, caused the death of Fatoumatta Kargbo by stabbing her in the chest.

Sub-Inspector Lamin Jammeh, representing the Inspector General of Police, told the court on Monday that the offense that Tine is alleged to have committed carries a punishment of life imprisonment or death. He then applied for the transfer of the case to the superior court as the lower court lacked the jurisdiction to entertain it.

He also applied for Tine to be remanded at Mile II in Banjul, pending the hearing and determination of the case.

His applications were granted by Principal Magistrate Mbaye.
